Following guidelines from the Healthy Eating Guide and an update in our nursery Healthy Eating Policy, this month we have been working with children, parents and families to promote ‘Healthy Lunch Boxes’ at Briar Dene.
We know that a good early education is vital to set every child on the path to fulfilling their full potential – and getting healthy, balanced food during the day is an important part of this.
With this in mind, we have urged parents and families to not include items such as crisps and biscuits in their children’s lunch boxes each day – opting for healthier options instead.
In line with early years and nutritional guidance and best practice, unhealthy foods such as biscuits, crisps, cakes and chocolate are now NOT allowed in nursery in line with our new policy.
So what does a healthy lunch box look like?
Here are some healthy lunch time ideas to get you started that we know your little ones will enjoy:
- Sandwich/Wraps with various fillings – Ham, Cheese, Tuna, Egg, Chicken, Dairylea
- Fruit yoghurt (no chocolate or toffee flavours)
- Fruit/cereal bars (no chocolate biscuits or chocolate bars)
- Fruit smoothie
We are delighted that so many parents and families are on board with us and helping us drive forward healthy eating to make Briar Dene a truly healthy nursery!
